Let’s get to know each other.
Welcome to my About Me page! On the main page of this site you got to see a little bit about my professional side. I’d like to use this space to let you know a little bit more about myself as a person. I grew up in Calgary, in the SW. My parents divorced when I was young. Through remarriage, I have two older brothers and two older sisters and several nieces and nephews. My mom was a therapist and my stepdad is a retired lawyer. My dad is still very much alive and active, often riding his bike around his own neighbourhood. He served the city as a police officer for over 25 years until he retired. My stepmother was also with the CPS in an administrative role until she retired.
I have been married to my husband, Andre, for over 30 years and we have five dogs. He currently works as a safety advisor for the City if Calgary. This role suits him well because he has been concerned with keeping people safe since his time as a peacekeeper in Canada’s armed forces. He retired from the military and made the transition to the oil and gas industry before getting his CRSP designation. I am so proud of him for going back to school for his designation, especially since his first language is French and not English. We met when he was stationed here after battle school. He is originally from Gatineau, Quebec.
I have a number of hobbies, but the one I have been doing the longest is crochet. My grandmother taught me when I was 14 and I have been doing it ever since. Recently my husband noted that I was going to craft store and acquiring inputs for my crafting but he figured we should maybe shift towards moving the outputs before buying more inputs. He made a fair point, so once a year I host a craft-o-polooza at my workplace where people can grab items and if they feel like paying for them then all the proceeds go towards a charity of my choice. Last year it was the Veteran’s Food Bank. I raised over $500.00 and cleared out space for more inputs. Win-win.
I like to ski and ride my bike, but I am by no means an athlete. We also like to get out and walk the dogs at Edworthy off leash. We have to take them out in shifts though because the two bigger shepherds are quite the handful. The three little ones are Alaskan Klee Kais and they have all the attitude and noise of a husky but compacted down.
I also like to read and learn new things. I returned to higher education as a mature student. I’m not going to lie and say it was easy. I had to relearn math and I was fine until they introduced the Greek alphabet into things.
Hopefully this helps you get to know me as a person. I look forward to seeing you out there on the campaign trail.
Kari
